Short Description of Instrument
A task force of sleep experts divided in revision workgroups (insomnia, circadian rhythm sleep wake disorders, sleep related breathing disorders, parasomnias, hypersomnolence and movement disorders) established diagnostic criteria for sleep disorders according to current knowledge in the field.
The classification provides a unique code number for each sleep disorder so that disorders can be efficiently tabulated for diagnostic, statistical, and research purposes. The primary aim of the text is to provide useful diagnostic information.
Comments/Special Instructions
Diagnosed criteria depend on the specific nature of the disorder. Some may include only clinical history (e.g., insomnia, advanced sleep-wake disorder) while others require polysomnography (REM sleep behavior disorder) or biological features (narcolepsy).
