The NINDS encourages research teams to cite their use of the NINDS CDEs for both dissemination and tracking purposes. Listed below are ways researchers can cite their CDE usage:
- In publications - Indicate in the Methods or Acknowledgements section that the study “used the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke Common Data Elements (http://www.commondataelements.ninds.nih.gov/)” and if appropriate refer to the following citation in the References section: “Grinnon ST, Miller K, Marler JR, Lu Y, Stout A, Odenkirchen J, Kunitz S. National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke Common Data Element Project - approach and methods. Clin Trials. 2012;9(3):322-9. Epub 2012 Feb27. PubMed PMID: 22371630”. If possible, also list “NINDS Common Data Elements” as a keyword when submitting the manuscript.
- In presentations - Mention somewhere in the slide presentation, that the NINDS Common Data Elements were used in the study and include the Web site URL (http://www.commondataelements.ninds.nih.gov/).
- In ClinicalTrials.gov - Include “NINDS Common Data Elements” in the Keywords provided by the Sponsor section when submitting information about the study to www.clinicaltrials.gov.
