Short Description of Instrument
The NPSI is a 12-item measure used to assess neuropathic pain and determine how participants/subjects respond to various therapeutic agents.
 
This survey is specifically designed to evaluate the different symptoms of neuropathic pain. "The final version of the NPSI includes 10 descriptors (plus two temporal items) that allow discrimination and quantification of five distinct clinically relevant dimensions of neuropathic pain syndromes and that are sensitive to treatment. The psychometric properties of the NPSI suggest that it might be used to characterize subgroups of neuropathic pain patients and verify whether they respond differentially to various pharmacological agents or other therapeutic interventions."

Maximum score = 100
Psychometric Properties
The NPSI total score demonstrated good internal consistency with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.70 and test-retest reliability 0.79. The construct validity was supported by moderate and significant positive correlations with the pain intensity NRS and pain severity subscale of the MPI (r?>?0.40) (Wong et al, 2020).
