Short Description of Instrument
Purpose: For the assessment of mental disorders according to the definitions and criteria of ICD-10 and DSM-IV.
 
Description: The WMH-CIDI is intended to be used in clinical and research areas as well as in cross-cultural and epidemiological studies. It measures the prevalence, severity and burden of mental disorders and it assesses the service use, medication use in treating these disorders, who is treated and not treated and what barriers to treatment are. The following DSM-IV disorders are included: Mood disorders, Anxiety disorders, Substance abuse and dependence disorders, Impulse control disorders, and Other disorders (only premenstrual dysphoric disorder).
 
Comment: The CIDI includes both the definition and criteria of the DSM-IV and the ICD-10. A newer version, the CIDI V2.1, and a shorter version, the CIDI-SF, are available. Training through the World Health Organization authorized CIDI Training and Reference Centre is required for this assessment.
